Ways to Make Your Home Look Elegant on a Budget

Decorating your home can be difficult if you have a tight budget. Interior designers share their secrets of getting that high-end look you want without breaking the bank.

  1. Crown Molding has a way of making a room feel finished. It brings the ceiling and the walls together. Fortunately, crown molding is fairly inexpensive, making it affordable on any budget. There are many widths to choose from, for the biggest impact choose the widest width you can afford.  For the ultimate in glamour, try adding all types on molding to your home, i.e. crown, high baseboard, ceiling beams, columns, ceiling medallions, chair rails etc…
  2. Paint Color is possibly one of the most difficult decisions in decor to make. Choose one of these two options – bold and dramatic OR soft and understated hues. These hues allow you to add instant elegance to your home. It simply depends on your color personality in terms of which option you choose.
  3. Pillows serve two purposes. They can really punch up the elegance factor. Pillows can also provide extra comfort to your guests. They create a layered feel to your room. Avoid the standard 12-18 inch pillow.  Go for something larger such as a 22 inch cover with a 24 inch insert. Large overstuffed pillows create a very plush, elegant look.
  4. Window Treatments are a must-have accessory.  A home without window treatments will look unfinished. Fortunately, window treatments are one of the most budget-friendly ways to add some elegance to your home, as well as much-needed privacy.
  5. Hardware Finishes – opt for unique finishes to add a touch of something special
  6. Lighting Makes a Difference as it really opens up a room and makes it feel more welcoming. Putting up a cool light fixture such as a chandelier is a great design tip.
  7. Hardwood over Carpet is a choice faced by many when designing a home. Hardwood tends to be a better option as it adds value to your home and stands true to the test of time. It can be refinished as needed if you want to change the color or if it gets scratched by pets and kids.
  8. Accessorize the space. Maybe you have some trinkets from travelling that you want to show off or you like thrift shopping to find interesting pieces. Either way, don’t be afraid to put them out on display on shelves, tables, or in a glass front cabinet.
  9. Statement Furniture is a great way to make a room really stand out. It could be a brightly colored couch to pop or for an easier DIY project, you could add stick on wallpaper to a TV stand.
  10. Decluttering is an important step to take. Not only does clutter increase stress levels, but it also makes a space look more messy than it really is.
