In the past, April has been the start of the home buying season with it being one of the busiest times in real estate. However, last years trends have shown that property views in January are on the rise. As of January 2019 in Seattle the number of views per property were 32% higher than any other month. With current trends are shifting, buyers out looking for properties now.
Senior economist at realtor.com George Ratiu says,
“As shoppers modify their strategies for navigating a housing market that has become more competitive due to rising prices and low inventory, the search for a home is beginning earlier and earlier.”
Since sellers know April has historically been one of the best times to sell, they tend to wait until then to list their home. Come spring, the supply of homes will increase, meaning sellers will have more competition and will struggle to attract buyers unless their home is priced competitively. Whenever you are selling something you want to wait until supply is low and there are many buyers on the market – and for real estate that time is now!
